In 2006, a total of 1,638 billion kWh of energy was lost on the US power grid, with 655 billion kWh lost in the distribution system alone. A 10% improvement in distribution system alone would save $5.7 billion (based on 2006 national average electricity price). This would also reduce 42 million tons of greenhouse gases emissions.
